Cosplayers on the Edge of Death [Picture Gallery + Video]

Photographer Benjamin Von Wong was interested in picturing the fearlessness of superheroes for his “Superheroes on a Skyscraper” project, so he asked some cosplayers to come along with him on top of a 1000-foot-high building and then he photographed them on the edge of death. I’ve included all of his photos above and below this paragraph, and the “behind the scene” video is at the complete bottom of the post.

What Your Kidneys Do and How Do They Work? [Science Video]

After drinking a few glasses of water on a hot day, you might be struck with a sudden … urge. Behind that feeling are two bean-shaped organs that work as fine-tuned internal sensors. Emma Bryce details how the incredible kidneys balance the amount of fluid in your body, detect waste in your blood, and know when to release the vitamins, minerals, and hormones you need to stay alive.

This Battery-Powered Bell Has Been Running for Over 170 years! [Video]

The Oxford Electric Bell is a battery-powered bell that was initially set on display at the Clarendon Laboratory at Oxford University in 1840. The device is powered by the Clarendon Dry Pile, a battery that has been running for 175 years and is composed of alternating layers of sulfur, silver, and zinc.

Even though most people cannot hear it ringing, the clapper can be observed moving back and forth between the two sections of the device. It has been estimated that the bell has rung about 10 billion times since the day it started operating.

Someone Please Buy Me This Hippo Chair?

hippo1

Somethings you see and you immediately know you must do whatever it takes to acquire said item. That is the exact feeling you will get when you see the hippo chair for the first time. It is like all chairs up to now in your life have just been jokes.

From LaughingSquid:

Spanish artist Maximo Riera has created the Hippopotamus Chair, a life-sized sculptural replica of an adult male hippopotamus that also happens to be a chair. The piece is part of his Animal Chair Collection.

You think you have seen it all, then you see the hippo chair and everything you know about chairs instantly changes. Is it art? Is it a chair? Is it both? Who cares, it is awesome and I need one in my living room, right now. Who knew hippos looked so cool ensconced in black leather?

If ‘Metroid’ Were a Free-Game by Current Publisher Standards [Comic]

metroid

Looking at this makes me laugh and makes me very all at once, because of just how accurate it is. Thank goodness we will always have N.E.S Metroid. Nothing can take that away from us. Because if Metroid came out now and was free-to-play, you know we would be paying real cash for missiles and upgrades.

The fall of gaming, as I like to call it.
