The Maze is a Lie: Biggest Easter Eggs In Westworld

Westworld is easily one of the  best shows on TV right now, and it is awash in easter eggs and references that allude to other work that inspired it. To sit down and watch all six episodes trying to find them all would be very exhausting and time consuming.

Thank god someone else had the drive to do it, and here they all are.

Tesla’s Cheap Solar Roof Plans: Tiles, Not Panels

teslaroof

Elon Musk claims Tesla can make solar-panel roofs cheaper than an ordinary shingle roof, even before taking into effect the energy costs. But there’s a big catch to his claim.

The company recently unveiled a design for glass solar tiles that are transparent when viewed directly, but have a special coating that, when seen from an angle on the ground, has the appearance of a traditional material.

The problem is that the price comparison appears to be to more expensive roofing materials such as slate and that the solar panel tiles will likely still cost more than cheaper materials such as asphalt. (Of course, in the long run the energy bill savings could overcome that.)

While it might seem unlikely that solar panels could cost less even that slate or terra cotta, Musk argues there are two main differences. One is that traditional roofing materials are comparatively heavy and have high shipping costs compared to the glass used in the Tesla tiles. Another is that the tempered glass tiles are much less prone to breakage in transport, something that makes up a decent chunk of the total costs of a traditional roof.

Musk believes Tesla can win people over to solar by producing individual solar tiles that are laid on a roof in much the same way as ordinary roofing. He argues that the more common method of large solar panels is offputting to many homeowners.

The downside is that it’s an approach much more suited to new home construction. With existing homes, people may be in fact be more willing to install a solar panel on top of existing tiles than to completely replace a perfectly functional roof.

Harry Potter Triwizard Cup and Snape’s Patronus Lamps

Show off your Harry Potter fandom with these two awesome officially-licensed Harry Potter lamps!

Harry Potter Snape’s Patronus Lamp:

patronus

With a small LED, this lamp casts the shadow of Snape’s doe Patronus, reminding us of what the character was ultimately all about. It’s not a light, per se, as much as it is a decoration. You wouldn’t want to read Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by it. But the directed illumination creates the magical shadow, a design that only works because there is darkness mixed in with the light. Take that how you will.

Harry Potter Triwizard Cup Lamp:

This trophy is not just something to gather dust – it’s the glorious Triwizard Cup from Harry Potter’s world. But wait. There’s more! It’s also a desk lamp, perfect for casting a glow on your late night reading without keeping everyone in the room awake.

Clickbait in a Nutshell [Comic]

Artist Shenanigansen from Owlturd comics provides a perfect exemple of what “clickbait” truly is in the comic below.

I just can’t stand sites that name their posts with headlines such as “This man has done 10 fantastic things to achieve success: #3 will astound you. Fortunately, there seem to be less and less people actually sharing those article nowadays, probably because social media sites now penalize publishers that write stuff like that.

North Carolina Comiccon Cosplay Video

The North Carolina Comiccon took place last weekend at the Durham North Carolina Convention Center, and thanks to the folks over at Distractotron, we have a video showcasing the fantastic cosplay that could be seen at the event! Also, seeing all the trees with all their leaves remaining is kind of depressing for me up here in Canada where it’s cold and grey at this time of the year.
