iPad Experiencing Pressure From Other Tablets

So it looks like iPads are having a bit of trouble (well, trouble for Apple, anyway) from other tablets.  I personally have never understood the appeal of an iPad.  I hopped on the Kindle bandwagon quickly, and as I already have an iPhone that I’m completely comfortable with, it seemed like kind of an unnecessary investment.

Wouldn’t this be common for most things during the third quarter, though? The author mentions that most of Apple’s iPad sales occur during the fourth quarter, which makes a lot of sense.  I guess my point is, I don’t get the iPad.

Real-Life Hoverboard [Video]

Scientists at the Université Paris Diderot have created a hoverboard, that you can stand on and ride.  I am so jealous.  I want this for me.  They need to make one that can go on water though, even if you don’t have power.

The Boy Scout Who (Almost) Built a Nuclear Reactor

For your daily “why we are all going to die” news, we have this story from the ’90s, in which a young boy, attempting to earn a Boy Scout badge, becomes an irradiated, tentacled monster.  The last part is false, but if this kid isn’t a supervillain by now, we’ve all been lied to.

How did he manage to do this, you ask?  With the help of authorities, of course.  That’s right: in order to figure out how to successfully concoct his maniacal plans, this kid simply  called up experts on the issues and asked for help with “a report.”

The article is fascinating.  For relatively cheap, this guy acquired enough smoke detectors and batteries to extract irradiated materials strong enough to set off his Geiger counter from five houses away.  I was planning on sleeping tonight.

Marvel Solicitations 1/12

The fine folks over at Comics Alliance have released Marvel’s solicitations for the month of January, 2012.  Most of this just doesn’t do a whole lot for me.  DC is currently killing it with their New 52, so that’s where most of my focus (and therefore hard-earned cash) goes.  However, there are a few titles here that I’ll definitely be checking out.  “PunisherMAX” and “Wolverine” both get a look-see for the Jason Aaron writing credits.  Aaron is fantastic at completely embracing the absurdity of these two characters, and I’ve loved pretty much everything he’s put out (the Spidey-Wolvy crossover was EPIC).  I’m also excited about Lapham’s “Deadpool” because Lapham never fails to deliver.  I miss “Young Liars”.  And despite the awesomeness of DC’s current lineup, I will not lie: Bendis’s “Spiderman” is the best comics going right now.  Brilliant writing on that one.

So what do you guys think?  Any Marvel fans out there want to clue me in on what I should be reading?
