Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing Update

I couldn’t quite believe my eyes when I saw the website for thisย โ€“ Joss Whedon has made a film of Much Ado About Nothing with an incredible cast? No way. And to be honest, I didn’t believe it.

Then I discovered that GaS has actually covered Joss Whedon’s secret project before, back when it first became public knowledge (and I was clearly living under a rock…or perhaps a pile of Uni assignments). So I thought I’d give a quick update.

Truth is, before I found it on GaS, I tracked it down to theย Toronto International Film Festival Websiteย itself before I believed this was actually real. The all black and white movie will premiere on the 8th of September, with showings on September 9th and September 14th in Toronto. If you’re in Canada (or even anywhere in North America really) โ€“ you better find a way to be there. This is a pretty awesome opportunity for you guys and I would be thoroughly disappointed for you if you missed it!

For those who don’t know much about the project, basically Joss Whedon’s wife suggested to him that instead of taking the vacation they wereย supposedย to take, that he make the Much Ado About Nothing film that he had always dreamed about making. He’s got a pretty awesome wife doesn’t he? It’s got stars like Amy Acker (as Beatrice), Alexis Denisof (as Benedick) and Nathan Fillion (as Dogberry) to mention just a few of the JW favourites in the cast.

The whole thing was shot in black and white, and completely at Joss Whedon’s house. It took only a month, from inception to production, plus 12 days for shooting. So the speed, the private location, and Mr. Whedon specifically telling everyone involved not to mention it, made the whole thing quite easy to keep quiet. Read more from Joss Whedon’s own mouth in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

The film goes for 107 minutes and is being shot by Jay Hunter, who also worked with Joss Whedon on Dollhouse.

Another Step Closer to Star Trek Replicators

The Imagine 3D Printer by Essential Dynamics is inching us ever closer to 3D printing as a commercial option for regular households. And this one can printย food.

In fact, it can print just about anything. From the site itself:

If you can bring it to a soft form first (using a household blender), you can print with it. The sky is the limit.

Starting to sound like we’re getting closer to Replicators!

Apparently, since this printer uses syringes instead of the regular hot plastic extrusion pieces found on other 3D printers, it can print things at room temperature โ€“ such as food! According to an interview with Stevie Green, Essential Dynamics Sales Manager, over at Fabbalooย they’ve tested the printer with chicken, fish, turkey, beef and pork, blending it and then shoving it in the cartridge.

This could mean some very extravagantly designed fine-dining options for chefs, but it also means intricate work can be performed on cakes and other sweet delicacies. Truly edible art is a real possibility with this.

Here’s a video “demonstrating” it, but exactly what it’s making…I have no idea.

The product boasts the “largest build tray in the industry” at 9″ by 9″, is designed to be lightweight and portable and, most importantly, affordable โ€“ it only costs $1,995, which is actually more reasonable than I thought it would be. Seems pretty cool,ย anyone tried one out by any chance?

Trekkie Restoring the Enterprise

One proud Trekkie refuses to let Paramount simply trash the set from his favorite series. He took the old tattered pieces they were chucking out and has decided he’s going to restore the whole damned thing.

In late 2011, we rescued this ENTIRE STAR TREK NEXT GENERATION ENTERPRISE D BRIDGE from BEING DESTROYED! Paramount had made it durably with Fiberglas instead of wood, and it survived for nearly 5 years, but had been long forgotten about.

It is our PRIME DIRECTIVE to take what we have and restore it to the closest recreation of the TV used as possible, with the help of our highly skilled group of Hollywood professionals, and MAKE IT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC for Meetings, Movie Showings, Fund Raisers, Tours, Filming, anything!!

He’s eventually hoping to start a funding campaign so keep your eyes out if you’d like to see this restoration happen!

Check out the project’s website for more images of the bits and bobs that they’ve gathered and are slowly and surely restoring! Also check out their Facebook page for updates.
