The Most Underrated Sci-Fi Movies Of The Last 15 Years

While some sci-fi flicks are destined to become blockbusters, other equally deserving films often linger unloved on Netflix or gather dust on the shelves before they gain a cult following. Maybe they received poor initial reviews, or perhaps they suffered from a limited or low-key theatrical release. Whatever the reason, they all deserve a second look from true science fiction fans. Here are some of the most underrated sci-fi films of the last 15 years.

The Never-Ending Game of Dungeons & Dragons (35 Years and Still Going Strong!)

Holy crap that man is one amazing and dedicated dungeon master (and human being!), and he does it all in the name of friendship. What a beautiful story!

In 1982, when he was only 14 years old, Robert Wardhaugh sat down to play a game of Dungeons and Dragons. Thirty-five years later, that same game is still going strong. Based out of Wardhaugh’s basement in London, Canada, people from all around the country gather each week to join in the decades-long campaign. And with over 20,000 figurines and dozens of terrains, Wardhaugh keeps the game fresh and exciting, adding to the everlasting adventure.

Upcoming Legend Of Zelda Encyclopedia Comes In Gorgeous ‘Golden Cartridge’ Edition

Deluxe editions are often little more than fancier packaging, but the upcoming The Legend Of Zelda Encyclopedia’s deluxe edition is very fancy indeed.

Apart from the gold casing, it also has both the look and (as much as possible with cardboard) feel of a NES cartridge. There’s also a protective sleeve similar to a box file and even a mock instruction booklet.

The book itself appears to otherwise be the same as the standard edition, so at $80 for the deluxe edition compared with a $40 list price (and as low as $23.99 with some sellers) for the standard edition, you’re paying a lot for a collectible.

Indeed, if you are a collector, it’s something of a quandary as the standard edition forms the third in a trilogy of books, all of which have a similar design. While you might think an encyclopedia would be a starting point, a comprehensive guide, or both, the new book follows up on the well-received Hyrule Historia (which reads as a history of the fictional kingdom) and Arts and Artifacts, which is largely an illustrations book covering both game artwork and production images.

As the name suggests, the encyclopedia is designed more as a compendium of  everything from game maps and characters to in-game items and even languages. It will be released on April 24 next year.

Super Impressive “The Nightmare Before Christmas” Piescraper Carousel [Video]

Holy. Crap. Can you imagine how long it must have taken to prepare this “piescraper?”

The Nightmare Before Christmas is my all-time favourite holiday movie, and I wanted to do something really special to honour this one-of-a-kind classic film… What better way than to come up with a one-of-a-kind new pie baking technique? Introducing the “Pie Carousel” – pecan pie on the bottom, pumpkin pie on the top, and edible decorative pastry panels and candy sticks holding it all together.

Not only does this design make a lovely centrepiece for your holiday table, but it makes a great communal dessert – everyone can break off a piece and dip into their favourite filling. We had a blast devouring this pie together :)
