Awesome: AT-AT Dog Costume [Pic]

As a dog whose human is an artist at an animation studio (in this case, Katie Mello at LAIKA), odds are you’re subjected to a number of weird costumes. In this case, we’ll allow it. Say hi to Bones, a miniature but fully functional AT-AT.

Fine Art + Gaming = Awesome

Fine art meets gaming, and we’re cool with it. Check out these cross-geekery mash-ups, courtesy of Buzzfeed.

Incredible (and Geeky) Doctor Who Tattoo [Pic]

We post a lot of geeky tattoos, it’s true, but sometimes we see new things we haven’t run before. That’s where Sexy Geek Heather-kay comes in. She was perusing our collection of pop culture body art and realized that there are no Doctor Who tattoos here. It’s ok, though, she’s got this handled:

Fear not, I have one  for you to add to your vast collection!
Done by Lynn McNew at Almighty Studios in Belleville, IL on 10-7-2011.  My 7 year old and I share a HUGE passion for Doctor Who and he helped design the piece.

We think this is about as perfect as a TARDIS can get as far as tattoos are concerned.

Thanks, Heather!

Massive Lego Model of Battlestar Galactica Ship [Pictures]

The Battlestar Berserk is no lightweight; it’s 73 inches, 24 inches wide, 14 inches high and weighs in at 54 pounds. The Lego kit for this thing would come in a box the size of my bedroom. Granted, part of the weight is from the steel supports built in to keep the model from collapsing on itself, and anyway, it probably shouldn’t be picked up very often.

If you don’t recognize the ship, don’t feel too badly about it. It was featured “briefly in the first episode.”

The Nobel Prize for Physics Explained [Video]

The Nobel Prize for Physics was awarded this week to Adam Reiss, Saul Perlmutter and Brian P. Schmidt for their discovery of the accelerated expansion of the universe. Current theory holds that this is evidence for dark matter, though the Nobel committee was wise to award the prize for the discovery and not its inferred meaning. Here, MinutePhysics explains the team’s findings and what they could mean, all in about a minute.

GLaDOSiri [Video]

Apple announced Siri on iPhone 4S, which lets you use your voice to send messages, set reminders, place phone calls, and more.

However, they decided to replace it with GLaDOSiri, which is way better.

Inspired by my love of Portal, and GLaDOS’ inevitable take over of every iPhone in America.

Thanks, !

Incredible Night Sky Time-Lapse [Video]

Let’s end the week on a calming note. This time-lapse of the night sky is simply gorgeous, and guaranteed to fill you with at least a little wonder and awe for the universe.

I recommend clicking the fullscreen button and turning up the volume. Something tells me Sagan would’ve watched it that way.

You can see Landscapes: Volume One here, and get some more info about the methods used to create the series on Dustin Farrell’s Vimeo channel.

Feynman on the Encyclopedia Britannica [Video]

As a kid who read an illustrated encyclopedia just for kicks, I’m always happy to hear that a similar pastime was enjoyed by some of history’s most celebrated thinkers. I wouldn’t put myself on par with Feynman, we did both share of love of reading something probably not meant for browsing in our idle hours. Here’s the late physicist talking about his hours spent nose-deep in  the Encyclopedia Britannica with his father.
