Life-Size Car Made from LEGOs, Powered by Air [Video]

“A teenage genius in Romania. A man from Melbourne. 40 patrons. 500,000+ LEGO pieces. LEGO engine runs on air.”

Thus begins the video depicting a black and yellow life-sized car made completely from LEGOs.

And the result came from one man’s idea…and one teenage genius.

It is the brainchild of Melbourne entrepreneur and marketing guy Steve Sammartino (Twitter: @sammartino) and Raul Oaida (Twitter: @rauloaida), a self-taught teenage technology genius from Romania who Steve met on the internet.

Steve crowdfunded it via twitter with a single tweet.

Super Awesome Micro Project Factoids:

– The engine is made from standard LEGO pieces and runs on air!
– The engine has four orbital engines and a total of 256 pistons.
– More than 500,000 LEGO pieces.
– Top speed around 20-30km (We drive it slowly, as we are scared of giant LEGO explosion).
– Built in Romania and shipped to a secret location in Melbourne.
– It’s a Hot Rod design, mainly because hot rods are cool.

Rodriguez Making “From Dusk Till Dawn” TV Series

Filmmaker Robert Rodriguez (From Dusk Till Dawn, Machete, Sin City) is launching a 24-hour cable channel called El Rey Network, featuring “the most culturally diverse generation in history through fearless, badass, and original content that awakens the renegade in everyone,” according to Entertainment Weekly.

The network will feature cult classic, next-gen sports, and original content, like a 10-episode supernatural crime drama based on the movie From Dusk Till Dawn.

The series — naturally called From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series  — will star Wilmer Valderrama, D.J. Cotrona, Zane Holtz, Jesse Garcia, Adrianne Palicki. Jake Busey, and Lane Garrison.

Cotrona and Holtz will play Seth and Richie Gecko, respectively. The roles were originated by George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino in the film version.

Valderrama (That 70s Show) plays Carlos, a criminal mastermind, while Busey (son of Gary) plays “eccentric, mythology-obsessed professor Aiden Tanner.”

Friday Night Lights‘ Palicki, who was also Wonder Woman in an NBC pilot, is the most recent cast member to sign on. She will play Vanessa Styles, a woman from Seth Gecko’s past.

Geektastic Articulated Statues: Famous People as Star Wars Characters [Pics]

sw-mike3

Seattle-based artist Mike Leavitt has recently created a series of articulated wooden statues featuring famous people, dead or alive, as Star Wars characters. As you see (above and below,) his approach is rather unique and makes a statement, both serious and humorous at the same time, on the personality of each subject.

“Empire Peaks” is an entirely new set of collectible statuary debuting at Jonathan LeVine Saturday November 23, 2013. The new series is composed of 5-part articulating pieces ranging in height from 12? (30 cm) to 36? (1 meter), sculpted in carved wood and polymer clay.
