Are We Ready For Neo-Evolution? [Video]

In the following video presentation, medical ethicist Harvey Fineberg shows us three paths forward for the ever-evolving human species: to stop evolving completely, to evolve naturally — or to control the next steps of human evolution, using genetic modification, to make ourselves smarter, faster, better. Neo-evolution is within our grasp. What will we do with it?

  1. I totally agree with MisterMax here…
The speaker is very biased in a way that he doesn't really comment on the possible deviations of such "choices" while he sure cites a lot of "enjoyable" consequences.

    1) The global population is already growing too fast for our planet, do we really need to live longer so that there are even more of us ?
    2) I hate the idea that "one" could choose his or his child's "characteristics". If you could only have one, you'll somehow always regret better choices. If you could have all, then everyone would be the same. But the mmovie "Gattaca" quoted by Mister Max shows this in a more subtle way…
    3) Although I'm alright with "Better safe than sorry", everything has its limits. "Choosing" our evolution feels so wrong imo, kinda like the step thats gonna get us doomed instead of getting us "better".
