*Not* what you want to see on the fetal monitor when your wife begins to push. Thanks, Microsoft.

  1. Yeah, I'd pretty much blame the IT department of the hospital. There shouldn't be any outward-facing computers (i.e. towards the internet) on production machines that are used for specific purposes. Ultrasound machine with internet access? What's even the point.

Sorry, I find it funny, kind-of, but I think I'd blame the IT departments' update policies for that one.

  2. @Ria – Just because it's getting updates doesn't mean it has internet access. Could be pulling from a WSUS/SCCM box.

That said, it's still an HCIS/IT fail, but at least it's not FORCING them to reboot ;)

    • it shouldn't happen at all while in use. nevermind the time, babies come at all hours and need those machines at all hours. it should have been taken to IT to be updated, then returned to duty.

    • look out! another fanboy making the same tired joke we have heard for years.

you clearly don't realize the windows market share. a hell of a lot more things than that monitor use a windows OS. things you rely on.

      • Ok big deal? Windows is a horrid OS.. most likely they are using Windows XPe.. be much better to have Linux Embedded on it, wont require updates, atleast not every single day.. just sayin.

        • nothing against linux (which i use & love) but i fail to see any benefit of it over windows.
windows is not a horrid OS and certainly does not require daily updates. sure, some parts of windows can suck, but on the whole, it's decent, widespread and standard. i don't want my med equipment to require a power user to operate.

  3. i think its rather difficult to find a time to update considering the fact that babies usually don't plan on when they''re going to be born.. they just pop out.. kinda similiar to that popup :)
