Homemade Flamethrower

The idea for this project was born from trying to get our campfires started with kindling and wood so wet we couldn’t get them to burn with dry paper. Sure charcoal lighter would work but where’s the fun in that?

It frightens me to think about what some of my Oklahoman brethren might do with this newfound technology.

Wear More Clothes to Seem Smarter

Ah, winter.  It’s coming!  It’s my favorite time of the year.  I love the snow and the cold.  Call me crazy.  But, women also seem sexier to me this time of year.  It’s strange.  When summer rolls around there’s that initial sense of youth with all that exposed skin, but during winter, when women (or men, I suppose) are all bundled in scarves and boots and big jackets, there’s something massively appealing.  This article might explain it: we see people who wear more clothing as having more agency than those who don’t.  And for those of us who think intelligence and assertiveness are sexy qualities, covering up actually leads to a greater level of attraction.

Real-Life Invisibility Cloak

As cool as a personal invisibility cloak would be, there is no way they would ever get to the point where they were letting people buy them, which is deep down what we all want.  We all want these for voyeuristic reasons.  But if everyone has them, who will we spy on?

Ali Aliev, the researcher behind the feat, said he was able to make the cloak using carbon nanotubes, which look like thin strands of thread.

Mr Aliev told MSNBC: “We really can hide objects. … We can switch for a short moment and make it disappear.’

Researchers Discover Pristine Big Bang Gas

The existence of pristine gas that formed minutes after the Big Bang explosion some 13.7 billion years ago, had been predicted, but never before observed.

The clouds, which are located about 12 billion light-years from Earth within the constellations Ursa Major and Leo, were found serendipitously during an ongoing study to characterise gas in distant galaxies.

In analysing the light coming from quasars (active nuclei of distant galaxies), astronomers realised the rays had passed through gas that contained only hydrogen and deuterium, elements that formed minutes after the Big Bang.
