How a 1964 Whiskey Bottle Became the Star Trek Saurian Brandy Bottle

Check out this cool tweet from X user @SubcommanderT who shares a vintage George Dickel whiskey bottle: the very same design adapted by the Star Trek Original Series prop masters to create the iconic Saurian brandy bottle seen onboard the Enterprise!

A Piece of Trek History

The prop team took a 1964 George Dickel brand whiskey bottle, known for its distinctive “powder horn” shape, and transformed it into a futuristic flask for the in-universe Saurian brandy. This bottle style appeared not only in Star Trek: The Original Series but also resurfaced on Deep Space Nine and beyond, making it a beloved collectible among Trekkies. For those interested, these bottles, which are empty, of course, can go anywhere from $20 to 60$ on eBay.

Fun fact: That same George Dickel bottle also appeared in a 1971 episode of Mission: Impossible, possibly as a subtle nod to Star Trek fans since the bottle was placed in frame next to Leonard Nimoy.
