The Alarm Clock That Slaps You in the Face to Wake You Up [Video]

Simone Giertz built an alarm clock that slaps her in the face with a rubber arm to wake her up in the morning. She took a regular alarm clock apart and wired it to an Arduino UNO board, which controlled a rubber arm attached to a 165 rpm brushless DC motor through a relay.

Simone has also invented a robot that prepares and feed you breakfast. Behold:

Carvana: Cars Delivered By a Robotic Vending Machine

carvana

Nashville is now home to a vending machine that dispenses cars rather than candy. And yes, it is a massive gimmick.

It’s operated by a company called Carvana which lets customers buy cars online without having to deal with sales staff in person, whether that be because they dislike pushiness and pressure, or are just anti-social.

The company offers a choice of delivery or pickup and has just opened its second pickup site, in Nashville. To make the pickup a bit more fun, customers don’t sit around waiting for a sales rep to get the car from a lot and bring it round front.

Instead they insert an oversized coin into a slot above a computer display and then watch as the car is automatically retrieved from a multi-story tower and brought to a delivery bay in a wonderfully over-the-top robotic manner.

For the most part it’s a promotional gimmick and the company even gives customers a personalized video of their car’s delivery, the idea being they share it on social media. Indeed, Carvana wants to make it such an experience that they will even pay customers $200 towards airfare to Nashville and then drive them from the airport to the vending machine.

The only obvious practical benefit is that storing the cars in a tower saves on the amount of land the company needs on the site.

Baby Hums Star Wars’ “Imperial March” to Herself in Her Crib [Video]

From Jonahan H. Liu.

We watched Star Wars with our kids recently, and our toddler (2 and a half) really enjoyed the bits she saw before her bedtime. One of her favorite parts: the Imperial March. Here she is singing it to herself in her crib (as seen through the baby monitor).

This might be cute for now, Jonathan, but wait until she starts throwing force lightning at you. Do not underestimate the power of the Dark Side. ;)

Fallout 4 and the World’s Best Wife [Pics]

Imgur user Pinkymoon might be one of the best wives in the world… at least for a gamer! Here is what she gave to her husband on the game’s release day:

I told my husband that I was pre-ordering Fallout 4 for him because there was a good deal on Amazon Prime, but I wanted to do something extra special because I know how much he loves Fallout. This is waiting for him when he gets home from work. I’m so excited I have to share it!
