Did You Know: Today is Captain Picard Day!

picard

Captain Picard Day is celebrated on June 16th because it is the equivalent date to Stardate 47457.1, mentioned in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode entitled The Pegasus. In that episode, Captain Picard Day is an occasion for the Enterprise to host schoolchildren and show them what Starfleet is like.

Memory Alpha doesn’t specify a date on our current calendar.  Some place the date on November 4th, or January 8th or 10th, but most agree on June 16th.

There are quite a few ways to celebrate this “holiday”, without going to the trouble of throwing a party or being a role model for children. Read the captain’s log, er, I mean blog, which unfortunately, was abandoned a few years ago. OR take a look at some of Picard’s vacation snapshots. The background music for any of these activities should be,of course, The Picard Song.

In case your memory isn’t what it used to be, arm yourself for the inevitable argument with 101 reasons why Captain Picard is better than Captain Kirk. He’s an experienced leader with human foibles we can relate to, and comes across as sexy without flaunting it like some other Starship captains we know. And every once in a while, the captain shows his other side:

Have a safe and happy Captain Picard Day!
