First Glimpse of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman

Following in the footsteps of Eartha Kitt, Julie Newmar, Halle Berry and Michelle Pfeiffer, Anne Hathaway has made her official debut as Catwoman in the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises. According to Slashfilm, though, the good people at Warner Bros. are being very careful not to actually call her Catwoman; even the official photo is labeled selina_kyle.jpg, not Catwoman.jpg, which is raising a few eyebrows. What do you think? Impressed? Unimpressed? Or is the general consensus that any Catwoman is better than Halle Berry’s Catwoman?

  1. I like her as an actor, but I'm not sure about her as Catwoman. She's cute and petty and all, but she doesn't have that like, primal sexualtiy about her. That true cattyness. And I'm not exited about the costume either, if I'd just seen her in that, I would never have known she was supposed to be catwoman.

  2. GOOD, DO NOT CALL HER CATWOMAN….WE KNOW WHO SHE IS. C'MON!!!! NOT GIVING HER THE NAME THROUGHOUT ADDS TOO THE MOVIE AS BORDERLINE BELIEVABLE PLOT, AND DEVELOPMENT. WE KNOW CATWOMAN'S NAME IS SELINA – DO WE REALLY NEED TO ADD CATWOMAN TO IT. ESP. IF YOU ADD A CAT OR TOO INTO THE CAST OR THE SCENES.

    • You know, I don't question Christopher Nolan these days. When I first found out Heath Ledger was going to be The Joker, I was unsure. I feel the same way about Anne Hathaway, but I'm sure I'll be impressed… Nolan knows what he's doing.

  3. There was no Halle Berry…..It never happened….just like Start trek V, they skipped over that number and went to VI.

  4. Possibly those are night vision goggles, like how cats have low-light vision. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt here and hope that it comes out okay, because I love Batman and I love Chris Nolan.

Also, I thought that Halle Berry's "Catwoman" was about her being a hooker.

  5. Well, lets be fair. No one looked at Keaton (who did primarily comedies) and thought "Batman", yet he did an excellent job. It seems that Batman movies have a tendency to hire people who would not–at first glance–seem to "fit the bill", but end up doing quite well.

For my part I'm looking forward to see how she does. She's a good actress already and as long as the script is good, I suspect she'll do a fair job at the role. Who knows? She might be the new standard for Catwoman. ;)

  6. im sorry, but she is not sexy and seductive enough to be catwoman. i still remember her from disney's princess diaries – ever since that movie when someone says anne hathaway, I think of her as a dorky goof.

  7. I THINK PERSONALLY THAT ANNE HATHAWAY HAS NO INTENTION OF BEING CASTED AS CAT WOMEN what so ever i bet this is gonna down the hills for batman the dark knight rises.
p.s. she doesn't have the attitude or sexy humor as Michelle pfeiffer.

  8. That's exactly what I was going to say! Like me, you might have originally learned of Anne Hathaway from the sappy sweet Princess Diaries movies, but she's worked hard to break that mold and really come into her own as something other than the "good girl." I'm excited to see her take on the role!
