Apple releases three new stupid “Get a Mac” ads

August 19, 2008 by Kiltak |

As always, Apple are basing themselves on the ignorance of casual users and technically challenged people to push their systems out in the world. You have to admit though, their marketing campaigns are absolutely brilliant. Gotta give this to them. Videos after the jump.

OMG … stupid!

Please tell me something good about the Mac … nothing good? Well, then tell me something bad about Windows!

So stupid.

Funny, I’ve been using Vista for more nearly a year now and it hasn’t crashed once. Meanwhile, I have a couple of friends with Macs that have run into trouble during that time. Hmmm….

No, I’m not saying that Macs crash all the time–I’m just saying my PC has not crashed once since installing Vista. :-)

I’ve used both PCs and Macs and I like each for different reasons. My desktop has Vista and I haven’t had any problems with it (I like it better than XP).

I like Macs for video editing and sound editing (but thats it). I use Vista for everything else.

These commercials are just ignorant.

Doesnt everyone just hate the snotty Mac guy? The PC guy is far more likeable. No one likes arrogant, self important, smug twats like the Mac guy portrayed.

My main problem is that its not Mac vs PC’s.. its OSX vs Windows. The hardware in most modern PC’s craps all over Apple.

For the record, I’m a Linux Pc man, with a little bit of windows, an ipod and iphone! I’m fairly well balanced I liked to think!

All Macs are PCs anyway.

I think these commercials are funny enough for the web, but I wouldn’t put them on the air…

They’re being quite mean against Vista, hmm? Fair enough, Vista deserves it. I have it on my desktop and laptop. ******* piece of ****. Then again, I don’t like Mac OS either. XP FTW.

I think the middle one is really funny, but I’m kind of tired of this videos. Like Canadian Developer said, they can each be good for different things. I know a lot of musicians and graphic designers use Macs for their specific needs, but will also have a PC for doing all the other stuff they like.

I grew up on a Mac and then switched to PC and haven’t really used a mac since, but I’m not opposed to them.

This is still my favourite anti-Mac video http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=yg7Xh0m_Oco

Yes your right, it is MacOS vs Windows, as PC’s can run any operating system they like, (and linux kicks OSX butt at anything, I know that, and I’m mainly a windows user) I wish people would stop saying Mac’s vs PC’s because then they’ve just shown they have bought and been brainwashed by Apple. :P

And, to be fair, I can do all my design stuff on Windows and Linux too :P As well as development. :)

I can provide a TON of technical reasons why a Mac is far superior to a Windows machine, however the one reason I tell EVERYONE is:

When you own a Mac, you simply turn it on, do what you need to do, and life is good. In contrast, with a Windows machine, this only works for the first few months before your machine is infected with random spyware/viruses. You get exactly what you expect out of a Mac - a machine that consistently allows you to do what you need to do.

Only if you don’t know what you’re doing. I’ve run XP Pro for years and never had problems with diminishing capabilities. My computer is 8 years old and is still nice and secure.

Mac is to general home computing what AOL is to the internet - its selling points are mostly good for those who don’t know what they’re doing.

Lol, when you thought mac couldn’t get any more idiotic. I was on my friend’s G5 today.. after the long startup time I got to the desktop to find iTunes was open in hundreds of the same corrupt glitchy window, the dock was spanning across the screen with all of them and then uh oh! Beach ball! wait wait wait wait wait. About 10 minutes later with no response and the cloverleave+period+lick+smack upside the screen. He recently got Vista. and games. With no crashing. How about that? He’s a happier person to this day. Literally.

Oh yea! And those stupid aluminum mac books. I checked one out at best buy. It was kinda hot, smelled funny. So I lift it up to find that the plastic table under it is melting! And there were burn marks in certain places.

Yea great computer you guys, you said your IQ was that of a snail? Yea I could believe it.

Linux > Mac > Windows

Not to mention it’s free.

I am a mac user, but I can honestly say I hate this marketing campaign.

Here’s the truth of it folks.

If you prefer Windows Vista or XP go for it.
If you prefer Mac OS X go for it.
If you prefer Linux… well you get the idea.

I think the modern operating systems are, in general, perfectly capable for most users.

The best thing to do is go for the OS/Machine combination you personally like best and forget about the whole ‘This versus That’ argument.

Oh and my experience? Well I use Macs, Windows in it’s various flavours, Linux, Unix and VMS so I think that’s a fairly good sample!

These adverts just make me hate both of them….. I’m sounding like a Linux Fanboy here aren’t I?

The Mac adds are unfair but very effective. I was recently reminded of Microsoft’s effort to fight the Vista bashing with the “Mojave Experiment.” I hadn’t read about it. I’d only heard about it on TWiT so I Googled it. What I found were mostly sites bashing the “experiment.” I’ve actually used Vista on my laptop for 8 months. I run obscure older programs and Office 2003 without problems. I can’t remember the last crash I had. It seems very stable. And this is on a low end laptop with “only” 2 gigs of RAM.

Anything with 2gigs is excluded from being called “low end.” Try it on 512mb.

I only paid $855 for the laptop with an HP printer AND a digitial camera thrown into the package. That’s the cheapest laptop I’ve ever bought and it runs the best. Although it is the cheapest, it has the most RAM. I called it “low end” because it was cheap and because 2 gigs is supposed to be the absolute “minimum” needed for Vista. It sure doesn’t run like I have the minimum required RAM. RAM is cheap if you’ve only got 512 MB go buy a stick or two. I wouldn’t run XP on 512MB!

Vista will run “ok” on 1 GB… 2 GB is preferred.
XP will run “ok” on 512 MB… 1 GB is preferred.

It all depends on your needs.

Listen… Mac commercials are stupid and it is so ignorant of Mac to make commercials like that. Mac’s are good… but only good for certain things ( music, photo editting type of stuff ) . PC’s are universal you can do anything with a PC… Vista problems? Obviously your computer sucks too much to handle Windows Vista maybe you should upgrade? And who said you had to use Vista? XP is still a very fine OS. You guys think the commercials are funny? I think its a low blow to PC’s.. It’s like whats going on with McCain and Obama.. McCain is a Mac trying to put down Obama the PC as much as he can. POINTLESS.
