    • Because if a girl SAYS she’s a geek / nerd, that automatically makes it true. Even if she can’t tell a Cylon from a stormtrooper! God, stop being so sexist!

Yeah, sadly that’s how a lot of girls seem to think. I don’t care if you’re male or female, if you try to talk about things you know nothing about, I WILL mock you.

      • Not every single “nerd” enjoys the same mediums. I know hardened WOW veterans who couldnt give a fuck about battlestar galactica or star wars. Also why mock people at all? Aren’t we supposed to be the accepting crowd not the judging d* we claim to not be? Just let people be.

        • “Aren’t we supposed to be the accepting crowd not the judging d* we claim to not be? Just let people be.”

Then don’t try to pretend to be something you’re not. Yes, it really is THAT simple.

  1. I usually just meet a lot of guys from the first panel. And then there’s another panel where guys think playing video games is lame (yes they still exist).

  2. Meh, it depends. If a girl plays video games, great. Even better if she likes tabletop games like DnD or X-Wing. Then she’ll get a “Cool. What do you play? Maybe we should play sometime.” response.

If a girl plays The Sims or Angry Birds and then launches into some kind of self-aggrandizing “OH EMM GEE I’M SO NERDY!! LOOK AT HOW MUCH OF A GEEK I AM” routine, then I’ll give her the First Panel response.

    • Does it matter if someone only plays those games? Maybe they are really nerdy about those type of games? Maybe you should nod your head and suggest other cool games than scaring them off by calling them fake.

    • It really shouldn’t matter if she is playing Warhammer or if she’s playing Fruit Ninja. If she is happy with her definition of being nerdy, then that’s great for her. No matter if it’s guys or girls, the whole “you must be this nerdy to ride this ride” thing is getting old.

      • “No matter if it’s guys or girls, the whole “you must be this nerdy to ride this ride” thing is getting old.”

That sounds more like you desperately want to be a nerd and are angry that the real nerds won’t let you join their club.

        • That logic right there is what ruins it all. Being a geek/nerd was once NOT A CLUB, but an outcast status. That was the point. We grouped together because we LOVED things and we wanted to share that love with others, we grouped together because of the whole “exclusive club” mentality of our peers… and now we’re doing it ourselves.

          Fuck that noise.

There is no grand poobah of geekdom that has generated a cred-checking list. And if there were, I bet their list would be lacking a lot of aspects because every nerd/geek is different in their focus. That’s always been the way it is.

  3. Having been married to a girl who plays video games, I always treat women like the last panel. Mind you they still think I’m one of the first two panel guys and get defensive. I hate the first two panel guys. They not only make it hard on the girls, but also us third panel guys.

  4. Only problem is if you act like the third panel then the women think your just pretending to care. Its a bad ending no matter what it seems. Granted I never have had that happen to me really. Not with my offline friends.
