    • I don't think MIT can claim the idea of the shirt. I've seen it all over the place. University of Washington had a shirt with that writing on it in the early 2000's, and I'm sure other places had it sooner.

      • I saw the exact shirt in the pic above in the 80s when I was there.
        I never meant to imply that it was exclusive. That just happens to be when/where I saw it first.

  1. I have the exact same shirt, it is of Maxwell's equations (describing the electromagnetic field) in integral form. I always wear that when I have to do something in classical or quantum electromagnetics at university. You can forget the mathematics behind them, it is more important to understand their physical meaning.

  2. I also have seen this shirt around MIT since the early-mid 1980s, though it was usually white type on a navy-colored t-shirt. It is worn proudly by nerds here in Cambridge to this very day.
