Ayanami Rei is just a bad clone of Ikari Yui though. She's a lifeless shell who only does what Ikari Gendo tells her to do.

100% agree, she is absolutely brilliant. No maybe not number 1 on this list, but she should be on it and up there quite a bit.
Get Light Yagami up there! Sure L might've won in the end, but Light outsmarted him for a good few years!
What about Kyoya Ootori from Ouran Host Club? He's completely devious.
Kamada from Battle Royale. Not only does he know about healing people, as his father was a doctor, but he also know how to kill whilst not wanting to. Also, he knows how to survive.
But with Shikamaru's I.Q. being upward of 200, I'd put him at the top.
I'm honestly surprised (and disgusted) that Washu (Tenchi Muyo!) isn't on that list.
Ami (Amy) from Sailor Moon? Yuu from Rayearth? Kabuto from Naruto?
Good list of some of the smartest anime characters but definitely not a complete or ranked list. Kudos on using a Nico Robin picture though :D

Kira and Vegapunk are smarter characters in 2 of the animes stated. It's hard to say who's "smartest" – but Lelouch (Geass), Leeron (TTGL), Kanzaki Urumi (GTO) or even Himeji (Baka to Test) and Shigeru (Yakitate!!) could outsmart most of them.
Though i’m sure this has been said by many geeks before me, Kira should be on that list right along with L.
Also. Motosuwa Hideki should be on that list just for figuring out how to switch on his persocon.
In that case: Roshi (Dragonball) is on the same level!
Where the heck is Tôshiro Ôyama, from Captain Herlock…

Hmm, let's see, why not put Shikamaru's father up there? His son even admits that his father might be smarter than him. And then there's Shiho (Naruto) who is a code-breaker–that Shikamaru turns to! And I don't agree with Bulma (DB, DBZ, DBGT) being in the top seven, maybe top 100, maybe. And how about Kaolla Su (Love Hina), who's robotics are so far ahead of her time that she should be rich in her own right, not just as a princess. And how about Shinobu Sensui (YYH)? He was so smart that he turned evil. Ed–if not Ein–(Cowboy Bebop) deserve to be up there, because, really, no one is smarter than Ed. More logical, definitely, smarter, no way. It's a travesty that Washu (Tenchi) is not on there. I will agree with Nico Robin (One Piece) being up there, though. Ami Mizuno (Sailor Moon) should definitely be up there as well, she's not number one in Japan for nothing. Speaking of super intelligent students, Kurama (YYH) should be there too. It takes a lot to outsmart the fox. I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of them right now. Still, I don't agree with that list at all.
