ACT NOW: PROTECT IP / SOPA Breaks the Internet [Video]

----------------

IMPORTANT: Tell Congress not to censor the internet NOW! (Click!)

PROTECT-IP is a bill that has been introduced in the Senate and the House and is moving quickly through Congress. It gives the government and corporations the ability to censor the net, in the name of protecting “creativity”. The law would let the government or corporations censor entire sites– they just have to convince a judge that the site is “dedicated to copyright infringement.”

The government has already wrongly shut down sites without any recourse to the site owner. Under this bill, sharing a video with anything copyrighted in it, or what sites like Youtube and Twitter do, would be considered illegal behavior according to this bill.

  1. What did we expect? Millions of thieves stealing billions of dollars of movies, music, software, books, and even photos. Yeah, the industry is going to play dirty. Is it fair? No it isn't. Politicians are on the take, and abusing the system ruins it for everyone. Both the industry and the thieves are equally responsible for this. As everyone points a finger at the corporations and politicians, don't overlook the thieves.

    • That is not the point. The point is that the laws are bad, they will fail to work as advertised, they ignore due process and in the process are are blatantly unconstitutional, they ignore how the Internet really works, They are all-around bad laws that need to be crushed.

      • I don't agree with copyright law and think it is totally inadequate to deal with the modern age. I also think this bill, if passed, is going to be horrendously bad for free speech. But as Arizona Citizen points out, the majority of internet users steal and think nothing of it. Some just watch the odd movie, others download thousand of movies, software and music and sell them on. We have hackers galore not only trying to fill our inboxes with spam but also to carry out blackmail and industrial espionage.

It's given the politicians all the ammunition they need to fulfill their agenda.

  2. OK, the pirates are abusing the systems of the internet, but that does not justify the big media corporations abusing the political system to take control of the internet.

  3. The worst thing about this is that the people who are going to pass this are old people that dont even use the internet or any sort of electronic device. Media corporations are huge and make millions each year. Its not that they are losing anything, they just arent making as much money as they think they should. Its ridiculous though, they make millions but where does it all go. Stuff this protect ip and sopa bullshit. If the american government is stupid enough to allow this through then they need a change of people who understand the internet and younger generations. They are going to kill the internet.
