Introducing the Dog-o-Matic – An Automated Washing Machine for Dogs

----------------

Once upon a time, a French entrepreneur named Romain Jarry woke up one morning and thought: What could I invent today that no one has ever thought of? An automated washing machine for dogs of course! Ok, maybe he’s not the first person who thought of the idea, but it’s the first time I’ve heard of something like this. Please admire the Dog-o-Matic in action:

This has to be one of the worse idea ever (for the dogs at least)… but certainly not for Mr. Jarry, who at $47 a pop, is apparently having a lot of success with the machines all around France, with plans to conquer the U.K. dog-washing market next year.

Now how about putting a cat in there? >:)

  1. Wow, I’m surprised the WSPA hasn’t stepped in. Can you imagine being locked in a washing machine, not knowing what is going on, and thinking that you are about to drown. This is pretty cruel. What next, a washing machine for your children?!?! People are too lazy – get a garden hose and do it by hand!!

  3. Hi to all,

I just would like to clear some points.

The girl on the picture is the owner of the dog and also a customer.

I didn't create that cabin (spanish company) but the concept which is a dog washing place where pet’s owner can wash them easily without dirtying their bathroom.

The automatic cabin takes the concept of a water jets shower obviously softer than for humans (nothing is turning inside the washing space for people which were thinking this). Shampoo is similar of a shampoo for baby adapted to dogs and cats (doesn't hurt eyes and hears).

In case of dog's panic, owners can push the stop button or open the door. Like that cycle is stopping and restart when you close the door or release stop button. After washing something like 50 dogs in 7 opening weeks, I’ve never see problems with dogs. Even if I get the case, owners can finish to wash or dry their pet themselves with the manual washing cabin.

Have you ever wash a dog which doesn’t want to be wash…it’s almost impossible. The advantage of this kind of cabin comparing the manual one is because you don’t have human intervention, the dog quiet by himself. I saw a lot of dogs very cool inside the cabin and that was surprising the owner because they said to me that it was a pain to wash them by hand.

    • I've never seen anything so cruel you should be washed in that thing. That is insane to do to your pet

    • This is Horrible I am a owner of a golden retriever who gets dirty alot but i would never put him in a machine like that… And who are you to say the animal is fine unless you are dr doolittle i dont think you know what the animal is feeling

      • You should be tortured. What to you think happens in there? Water is filling and the dog is drowning. Wow! There's a sad bunch of ignorant people. Didn't you see the holes on the bottom? Every new invention has been approved or disapproved. It's not like someone invented this washing machine for people who want to kill their pets by torturing them. I really liked the comment that Romain Jarry left. Get informed people!

        Sincerely,

  4. Surely this is a joke? Some good Photoshopping if it is.

If it is serious, I sincerely hope the RSPCA will step in and stop these ridiculous machines being launched in the UK.

Mr Jarry, if you think I’d subject my pets to this you’re having a laugh. Try it yourself one time, perhaps?

  7. The black dog in the video seemed to take it all in stride and actually looked like he was excited to be put back in there. I thought it was hilarious. It’s a great concept. If I had a dirty dog, I’d take him there. ‘Come on, Sparky, let’s go get a shower!’ Does it dry the dog too? It looked like the dog was pretty dry afterward. Pretty neat, if it catches on.

  9. Oh, don't be silly. It looks perfectly harmless. As a matter of fact, the dog looked like he was enjoying it.

I'd never try it on my cat though. She knows where I sleep.

  11. I was under the impression that some dogs' ears can never get wet on the inside…pure-breeds and the like. This would certainly cause ear infections in those breeds since one cannot control where the water does not go.

    • Absolutely! This idea is just plain sick and cruel. I would never put my little dog in something like that. The poor little things are literally being torured and are helpless to protect themselves. Shame on the guy who invented this contraption.

  13. Maybe to help improve it, make it a bigger space to make it less tramatizing. Personally, if I was put in a dark box, and had a door shut on me, and then a bunch of water started to spray all over me with soap. I’d freak out. I would make the most of the machine clear, and bigger, so the dogs could be more comfortable. I think it’s a terrible idea. It’s okay to put a dog in a kennel to sleep in, and there’s air coming through the grate. But, a dog is more likely to freak out in a completely enclosed box and then the water comes from all places, and then in the drying cycle the air being blown at it, it’s going to overwhelm the pet. Especially if the soap gets in the dogs eyes, water in its ears, or if it does blow air to dry it, that can damage its ears. Of course it was happy to get out. Then again, how lazy can a person get to just throw their pet in a box and have a machine wash it. Take some responsibility and just wash your damn dog instead of risking traumatizing it, and I think it’s just unfair and sick.

  15. I still think this is cruelty. What does a dog mean to you? If it’s such a liability to keep a dog, then for Pete’s sake I’d rather you give up the dog to the SPCA.

I agree with other comments that it’s cruel to shut the poor mutt into that box. What if the machine malfunctions? How do you know the dog really enjoys it? How would you know it would enjoy it, in the first place? You would have to put it in, and if it doesn’t like it, you would’ve caused that dog tremendous trauma.

Why don’t people try sitting in it and taking a shower? I’m sure it’ll be good for people who work long hours and are too tired to shower after a hard day’s work.

  17. My dogs would hate it. It would give them a breakdown. We just put them in the tub and while it may take a little longer and it is a little messier … it is more calming for them. I may be more sold on the machine if perhaps Mr. Jarry got into it and took a shower in there himself or perhaps put his kid in there to try it out.

  19. Use of this washing machine is absolutely and unequivocally NOT acceptable. This is a blatant and callous disregard for animals. I am amazed that with all of the challenges in this world and the obvious need for inventions that will actually contribute positively to society and our planet, this is what Mr. Jarry and his business investors have to offer the world. I don’t care how busy one is, how small their apartment is, how little time they have for grooming their pets, or how messy it is to give your own dog a bath, one should never ever subject an animal to such treatment as this.

The previous comment noting the YouTube posting of a cat being “washed,” only shows how cruel and completely unacceptable these washing machine really are.

  21. It really depends on the pet. I have two dogs who would love that. They are kennel trained. They love water in all forms for sprinkler to shower to bath. I have the shut the door firmly when I shower or I have unwanted company. If your dog hates enclosed spaces or water, pure torture. But I bet my dogs would love it.

  23. This is just tragic. If you can’t train your dog to be washed by hand you are not qualified to be a dog owner. Way too many people unfortunately have no idea of the dog mentality.

  25. HAHA! I love it! Great idea! They should come up with something for cats!! That would be funny! But, again great idea for the dogs. My dogs would absolutely LOVE it!

For all the people that think this is cruel, just thought you should know that THESE ARE DOGS we are talking about here, not humans. Dogs actually like to take baths…..

    • Dogs have feelings and fear just like any other living thing. Just because they can't tell you doesn't mean it isn't happening. I suggest you get in one and feel like you have no way out. See how much you'd enjoy it.

  29. i think it’s a great invention.. just need more modifications, such as putting lights inside, and regulating the temperature, making sure its warm enough..

but these should not be commercially sold in homes,as operating these machines really require some professionals.. u can’t afford to make mistakes such as putting detergents inside,or even leaving the dog inside..

  31. what the heck are you people thinking??!! you guys are getting more RIDICULOUS by the second. yes it may be easier, but thats sooo selfish of anyone to use that. in that video did you see the dogs pore face? i look down upon cruel and sick people like that and you guys hopefully get karma

  33. People wanna have dogs but can’t even find time to wash their dogs once in a while? This is so unfriendly to poor buddies.

I’d freak out if I was the dog.

  35. Wouldn’t it be difficult to breathe in there? I mean, that Romain guy said that it works like a steam-shower for humans, but in steam-showers people can lift their head up to breathe. Dogs can’t do that.

Dogs would probably find it difficult to breathe. Not to mention the trauma!

  38. i think there are far to many people that over-humanize their pets.. yes i love my pets and yes i care a great deal for their well-being. however i dont believe that using this device would traumatize your pet causing permanent damage. the most that would happen is it would be a little scared while in there then when it came out get reassured by your praise. thus enforcing going in as a good thing. once more pets do not have the same mental processes as a human people! stop, think, and quit over humanizing your pets!

  41. This is ridiculous Mr. Jarry. how the hell did u know the dog liked it? did u even consider the fact that most dogs who doesnt wanna get washed are the ones who will most likely use your machine. If they dont wanna be washed manually, I bet they’ll hate it more to be washed inside that thing.

  43. This is terrible! Poor dog seems terrified and has no idea what the hell is going on! Instead of high fiving the crazy maniac who invented this thing we should be doing something to stop such horrific conTRAPtions! You’d be crazy to put a beloved pet inside this “cabin” I wouldn’t even if you paid me!

  47. Ha! A bunch of paranoid people :-). Why not try and see what your dog thinks, why think on behalf of them. Everyone who posted this is like “my dog wouldn’t..” How the f do you know that? This is just hilarious. It really is funny how you guys think you’re protecting your dogs by thinking for them. Actually, it’s a shame. Get your dog in there and see if it likes it. If you don’t like it then don’t be talking like your dog told you how it would feel. If the cabin had some fire then maybe you would have the right to say the obvious, but with this thing you have no idea what its about. You’re the people who stop progress.
You love your clothes, do you wash them with your hands? You love your car, do wash it with your hands. You love your kids/partner – do you personally wash them all the time? Come on! Invention makes the job easier for you, it doesn’t take anything away from the love. Come on !

When they invented a washing machine for clothes, they said people were being lazy and it would damage your clothes yada yada.

Go on Romain! Please bring it to South Africa. We love our pets and wash them ourselves but would love to wash them with that machine every once in a while, if not all the time.
    Keith

    • No we aren’t paranoid but guess what dogs cannot talk and your right they are not people which is why OWNERS think on behalf of them. When you own an animal you think on behalf of them, it kind of goes with the job description (you know looking out for their best interest and yes it is protecting them).
Being informed is always a good thing before commenting and all I’m saying is that this machine may not be good for some dogs. The experience could mentally damage them and if you “get your dog in there and see if it likes it.” then you’re not protecting it.
I think that if someone decided to lock their dog in that machine they should have to watch and make sure that the dog is ok with what is happening to it.

And it is a shame, that people do not understand that DOGS ARE NOT CLOTHS. Dogs are living, breathing animals and telling people, who do not want to wash their dog by machine, that they are “the people who stop progress” is NOT the best way to make them see the other side of the picture. Also calling people hypocrites because they use washing machines for cloths and cars yet they are against this machine is the worst analogy you could have used. Clothes and cars, as most of us know, are not living breathing organisms; whereas dogs are. And COME ON of course when a child reaches a certain age they wash themselves but that is because THEY CAN. Dogs don’t have thumbs or fingers to turn on water and wash themselves. If you insult someone’s intelligence do it in a way that you don’t look or sound stupid. Clothing, cars, humans, none of these are comparable to dogs when talking about washing them. Like I said two of these are not living and another can communicate with the individuals who are in charge of them.
So why don’t you come on! and realize that just because many people would not use this does not mean they are ‘stopping progress.’
Yes we love pets and if people are too lazy to wash them than they should not get one.

The woman in the report says “I tried the machine out myself, to see that it was nice and safe for Mitzuho (the dog).”…

  51. This machine is a cruel way to capitalize on the laziness of pet owners. If you are too lazy to properly care for your dog, or too cheap to take it to a groomer to be washed, then don’t have a dog. In our busy lives, our pets don’t get as much attention as they should to begin with. Giving your dog a bath should be a comforting, interactive experience for the animal. Even if they hate the bath, having someone’s hands on them gives them a feeling of security they cannot possibly get while locked in a scary machine. There is also no control over where the water goes, such as in the ears, where an infection can develop. Another benefit of hand washing your dog, is you have the opportunity to feel your pet all over, to discover things like hair mats, swellings, bumps or painful areas you would not have known about otherwise. Animals don’t need high-tech. Keep it simple.

Another benefit of hand washing your dog, is you have the opportunity to feel your pet all over, to discover things like hair mats, swellings, bumps or painful areas you would not have known about otherwise. Animals don't need high-tech. Keep it simple.

  53. Not my little sweet Phoebe. I’ll go through the work of washing her by hand every time and I won’t mind. Here’s yet another example of the disconnection “most” people have with Nature… VERY VERY SAD!!! ; (

  55. By the way.. “Sweet little Phoebe” is a 70 pound Pit Bull… and she’s a lot of work to bathe! I DON’T MIND! To the inventor of this machine.. “DON’T EVER GET A PET OR HAVE CHILDREN, PLEASE!” ; (

  57. Just make sure the region switch is not set to “China” on the back. For a global market, this thing could double as a roaster.

  59. This is absolutely the lowest, most cruel, dispicable thing I’ve seen. I’m willing to bet this idiot who invented it, and those who use the service, have not bothered to try it out for themselves! Let me see them withstand this torture just once, and I just know the machine would be BANNED worldwide!!!

    Morons!!!!

  61. I WOULD DEFINITELY GET ONE!!!!!! WHERE CAN I BUY???? YOU PEOPLE ARE SAD….THINKING YOU’RE ALL HIGH & MIGHTY WITH YOUR “DON’T BE CRUEL TO ANIMAL” MOTTO. IT’S A DOG WASHING MACHINE! IT WASHES DOGS!!!!! I DON’T SEE ANY OF THEM DYING OR GETTING HURT IN THERE!

  63. To all those outraged people, I ask – well, why dont we try it ourselves before we put the animal in it. I would be willing to. Lets put out efforts where our mouths are!

Why blinker away our possibilities and shut our minds before even giving the inventors a fair hearing???

I help administrate and run stray Dog & Cat care and adoption homes in Mongolia and India, and if it works without harming the animal (as I would like to try myself first), I can see that this would be such a useful device for organisations like ours to have!

At the same time, I also think of my mom, an aged arthritic woman who lives alone with our 2 dogs, and cannot give them a bath as often as she would like to. And when she does, she must call her doctor for her agonised back and knees right away.

Can all you outraged people look beyond (the sexy mademoiselle in the advert and our own young bodies) and see what a utilitarian gift this could be to your old parents???

Let us not act as if we were back in the dark ages. If we encourage the inventor maybe he will develop a small, cheap one which can be useful (and affordable) even to aged pensioners. If we try it ourselves we can offer him suggestions that will ensure a more pleasurable experience to the dog.

My 2 bits worth, from someone who loves dogs more than anything else!

  65. You're a moron. Pain doesn't have to be physical. I'll bet it would traumatise almost any dog that went into it and would probably put them off baths for life.

  66. The REASON so many dogs don't want to be washed is because they don't like it, and you think forcing them into a washing machine is going to HELP that? It's sick and frankly distressing for me to see.

My Staffy X hates being washed…I just get it over and done with. Jesus.

  67. I don't believe the experience a dog has in it and the experience a human has in it could be comparable. Locking a dog in a small box while it gets doused in water and shampoo and then dried is very different to walking in on your own free will and testing it.

I'm quite sure I would have no problems trying it. And I'm also quite sure it would absolutely terrify my dogs.

  68. Dogs can be equally as traumatised by events as humans can. They have very complex minds, they are not stupid. It's not humanising them, it's being realistic. If a dog is already terrified of water or of baths, using this machine on them would be a very distressing experience and would probably make their fear 100x worse.

  69. I think this thing is awesome!!!!!!!!! I sure wish they had some in the states. I have two dogs. One is a breeze to bathe the other is a nightmare. Still I would use this machine for both. If you read Mr. Jarry's response you wouldn't be so freaked out. If your dogs is panicking you can take him out. The dogs are fine. Stop being pansies. It also seems easier on the dogs rather than wrestling w/ them to get them clean. They're not being hurt. Can't say the same when you wash them by manually.

  70. I beloved as much as you’ll obtain performed proper here. The comic strip is attractive, your authored subject matter stylish. nevertheless, you command get got an impatience over that you want be handing over the following. in poor health for sure come more earlier again since exactly the similar just about very incessantly inside case you defend this hike.
