Introducing the Dog-o-Matic – An Automated Washing Machine for Dogs
May 19, 2009 by Geeks are Sexy | 27 comments
Once upon a time, a French entrepreneur named Romain Jarry woke up one morning and thought: What could I invent today that no one has ever thought of? An automated washing machine for dogs of course! Ok, maybe he’s not the first person who thought of the idea, but it’s the first time I’ve heard of something like this. Please admire the Dog-o-Matic in action:
This has to be one of the worse idea ever (for the dogs at least)… but certainly not for Mr. Jarry, who at $47 a pop, is apparently having a lot of success with the machines all around France, with plans to conquer the U.K. dog-washing market next year.

Now how about putting a cat in there? >:)

Nothing says love like waterboarding your pet, and giving it a nervous breakdown.
Wow, I’m surprised the WSPA hasn’t stepped in. Can you imagine being locked in a washing machine, not knowing what is going on, and thinking that you are about to drown. This is pretty cruel. What next, a washing machine for your children?!?! People are too lazy – get a garden hose and do it by hand!!
Absolutely said..
yeah, putting your kids in washing machine is not as bad as putting dog there; child can tell you how bad it feels. People are disgusting mercenary.
just imagine how much that hurts to get in your eyes.
Surely this is a joke? Some good Photoshopping if it is.
If it is serious, I sincerely hope the RSPCA will step in and stop these ridiculous machines being launched in the UK.
Mr Jarry, if you think I’d subject my pets to this you’re having a laugh. Try it yourself one time, perhaps?
Hi to all,
I just would like to clear some points.
The girl on the picture is the owner of the dog and also a customer.
I didn’t create that cabin (spanish company) but the concept which is a dog washing place where pet’s owner can wash them easily without dirtying their bathroom.
The automatic cabin takes the concept of a water jets shower obviously softer than for humans (nothing is turning inside the washing space for people which were thinking this). Shampoo is similar of a shampoo for baby adapted to dogs and cats (doesn’t hurt eyes and hears).
In case of dog’s panic, owners can push the stop button or open the door. Like that cycle is stopping and restart when you close the door or release stop button. After washing something like 50 dogs in 7 opening weeks, I’ve never see problems with dogs. Even if I get the case, owners can finish to wash or dry their pet themselves with the manual washing cabin.
Have you ever wash a dog which doesn’t want to be wash…it’s almost impossible. The advantage of this kind of cabin comparing the manual one is because you don’t have human intervention, the dog quiet by himself. I saw a lot of dogs very cool inside the cabin and that was surprising the owner because they said to me that it was a pain to wash them by hand.
Please have a look of the video of my site: http://www.dogomatic.fr/video.htm
Please before saying bad words keep you informed^^
I thank you for my right of reply

I’ve never seen anything so cruel you should be washed in that thing. That is insane to do to your pet
This is Horrible I am a owner of a golden retriever who gets dirty alot but i would never put him in a machine like that… And who are you to say the animal is fine unless you are dr doolittle i dont think you know what the animal is feeling
The black dog in the video seemed to take it all in stride and actually looked like he was excited to be put back in there. I thought it was hilarious. It’s a great concept. If I had a dirty dog, I’d take him there. ‘Come on, Sparky, let’s go get a shower!’ Does it dry the dog too? It looked like the dog was pretty dry afterward. Pretty neat, if it catches on.
Oh, don’t be silly. It looks perfectly harmless. As a matter of fact, the dog looked like he was enjoying it.
I’d never try it on my cat though. She knows where I sleep.
I was under the impression that some dogs’ ears can never get wet on the inside…pure-breeds and the like. This would certainly cause ear infections in those breeds since one cannot control where the water does not go.
Maybe to help improve it, make it a bigger space to make it less tramatizing. Personally, if I was put in a dark box, and had a door shut on me, and then a bunch of water started to spray all over me with soap. I’d freak out. I would make the most of the machine clear, and bigger, so the dogs could be more comfortable. I think it’s a terrible idea. It’s okay to put a dog in a kennel to sleep in, and there’s air coming through the grate. But, a dog is more likely to freak out in a completely enclosed box and then the water comes from all places, and then in the drying cycle the air being blown at it, it’s going to overwhelm the pet. Especially if the soap gets in the dogs eyes, water in its ears, or if it does blow air to dry it, that can damage its ears. Of course it was happy to get out. Then again, how lazy can a person get to just throw their pet in a box and have a machine wash it. Take some responsibility and just wash your damn dog instead of risking traumatizing it, and I think it’s just unfair and sick.
I still think this is cruelty. What does a dog mean to you? If it’s such a liability to keep a dog, then for Pete’s sake I’d rather you give up the dog to the SPCA.
I agree with other comments that it’s cruel to shut the poor mutt into that box. What if the machine malfunctions? How do you know the dog really enjoys it? How would you know it would enjoy it, in the first place? You would have to put it in, and if it doesn’t like it, you would’ve caused that dog tremendous trauma.
Why don’t people try sitting in it and taking a shower? I’m sure it’ll be good for people who work long hours and are too tired to shower after a hard day’s work.
My dogs would hate it. It would give them a breakdown. We just put them in the tub and while it may take a little longer and it is a little messier … it is more calming for them. I may be more sold on the machine if perhaps Mr. Jarry got into it and took a shower in there himself or perhaps put his kid in there to try it out.
someone DID put a cat in one….

Use of this washing machine is absolutely and unequivocally NOT acceptable. This is a blatant and callous disregard for animals. I am amazed that with all of the challenges in this world and the obvious need for inventions that will actually contribute positively to society and our planet, this is what Mr. Jarry and his business investors have to offer the world. I don’t care how busy one is, how small their apartment is, how little time they have for grooming their pets, or how messy it is to give your own dog a bath, one should never ever subject an animal to such treatment as this.
The previous comment noting the YouTube posting of a cat being “washed,” only shows how cruel and completely unacceptable these washing machine really are.
It really depends on the pet. I have two dogs who would love that. They are kennel trained. They love water in all forms for sprinkler to shower to bath. I have the shut the door firmly when I shower or I have unwanted company. If your dog hates enclosed spaces or water, pure torture. But I bet my dogs would love it.
This is just tragic. If you can’t train your dog to be washed by hand you are not qualified to be a dog owner. Way too many people unfortunately have no idea of the dog mentality.
HAHA! I love it! Great idea! They should come up with something for cats!! That would be funny! But, again great idea for the dogs. My dogs would absolutely LOVE it!
For all the people that think this is cruel, just thought you should know that THESE ARE DOGS we are talking about here, not humans. Dogs actually like to take baths…..

Note to Romain:
Hi Romain, nice to hearing you and I hope you are fine.
This is Sick!
then he must of woken up drunk/drugged.
i think it’s a great invention.. just need more modifications, such as putting lights inside, and regulating the temperature, making sure its warm enough..
but these should not be commercially sold in homes,as operating these machines really require some professionals.. u can’t afford to make mistakes such as putting detergents inside,or even leaving the dog inside..
what the heck are you people thinking??!! you guys are getting more RIDICULOUS by the second. yes it may be easier, but thats sooo selfish of anyone to use that. in that video did you see the dogs pore face? i look down upon cruel and sick people like that and you guys hopefully get karma
I am thinking you are NOT gonna get the dog in there a second time.
People wanna have dogs but can’t even find time to wash their dogs once in a while? This is so unfriendly to poor buddies.
I’d freak out if I was the dog.
