GTA Heist Tackles ‘Mount Chiliad Mystery’

The Mount Chiliad mystery might finally be solved in the next major Grand Theft Auto V update. Either that or the makers are just toying with their most dedicated fans.

For those of you who either never played GTA V or didn’t become obsessed with it, the ‘mystery’ surrounds a map in the cable car station on Mount Chiliad that includes an eye symbol, a hatching egg and a jetpack (which of course was a memorable part of GTA: San Andreas.)

Players with a lot of time on their hands have gone into obsessive detail trying to find meaning in this, with popular theories mentioning UFOs and the Illuminati and the idea that the mountain itself is a pyramid.

The next heist in the online element of the game is released next week with the following description, which heavily hints to these theories:

A billionaire tech mogul, an idealistic intelligence agent, a socially awkward conspiracy theorist, and a neurotic supercomputer have been forced into an unlikely alliance to save San Andreas from total annihilation. As apocalyptic threats mount from enemies unknown, you and your criminal crew are enlisted to untangle mysteries and eradicate threats spanning from the bustling streets of downtown Los Santos to the ocean floor and all the way to the inner depths of Mount Chiliad in an epic new online adventure.

Even more explicitly, the “Doomsday Heist” shows jetpacks as well as flying and underwater cars, not only fitting the theories but also bringing back some of the insanity of GTA: San Andreas that was lost in later instalments.

The bad news: as usual, it’s online play rather than single player offline, and PS3 and Xbox 360 users continue to be left out.
