Man Uploads Petabyte Of Porn To Amazon Cloud

A man who tried to find the limits of Amazon’s unlimited online storage deal gave up when he exceeded a petabyte. In doing so, the user may have created the largest ever hoard of adult videos.

The man, who posts on Reddit as beaston02, realized that manually uploading files from his hard drive would prove too time-consuming to satisfy his curiosity. He instead created automated scripts to record and upload webcam shows from adult sites, reasoning this tactic combined his personal interests with a good source of data-heavy content.

He says that as well as trying to see if the unlimited storage offer (now withdrawn) really was unlimited, the project was designed both to learn coding and to explore the difficulties of handling such huge amounts of data.

Beaston02 gave up on the project after hitting the petabyte mark but made his script available, making sure it will only record shows where the performer has made the video publicly available without geographic restrictions. Other Reddit users have continued the efforts and are now at 1.8 petabytes. Based on the shows being captured being 480p, that’s somewhere in the region of 163 years of video.
