Disney is to build a Star Wars-themed hotel with staff in character and costume. There’ll also be new Star Wars sections in Disneyland and Disney World.
The hotel won’t just be a place to stay, but a full-on immersive experience. It’s designed to replicate travelling on a spaceship, so there’ll be no external views: instead ‘windows’ will simply display a space scene.
There’ll also be an individual storyline for each guest, which sounds a little like an extended version of a murder mystery dinner evening. There’s no details yet on how this will work, for example if it will be dependent on how long guests spend in their rooms or outside the hotel during a stay.
The hotel will be in Disney World in Orlando. Both that park and Disneyland in California will also be getting new areas called Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which will be designed as self-contained worlds with vendors and shop staff in character.
As well as the previously seen Star Tours, there’ll be two new rides. The first will involve piloting the Millennium Falcon, with skilled flyers winning rewards and less successful ones being targeted for a (non-lethal) encounter with a bounty hunter at some later point on their visit. The second ride is themed on First Order vs Resistance, with visitors going inside a Star Destroyer and engaging into battle with AT-ATs.
