Hasbro is releasing a 40th anniversary series of Star Wars figures that are hugely reminiscent of the very first series of toys from 1977.
The actual 6” figures themselves appear to be similar if not identical to the currently available Black Series range from Hasbro. However, they are in new packaging that’s heavily inspired by the original Kenner range from when the movie was first released.
The 12 figures in the range match the original Kenner line-up. An initial batch covers Obi-Wan Kenobi, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and R2-D2. A second batch later this year will feature C-3PO, Chewbacca, Death Squad Commander, a Jawa, a Stormtrooper, a Tusken Raider and Darth Vader.
There’s even a nod to the early bird certificate set, the empty box produced for Christmas 1977 after the supply of figures ran out. Back then the box contained a voucher to be mailed in for Luke, Leia, Chewbacca and ‘Artoo-Detoo’ figures when they became available, along with a display stand. The 2017 equivalent, dubbed a Legacy Pack, contains a Vader figure and display stand.
The figures are $20 each, with the Legacy Pack costing $40.
