Growing up, if you saw the TV movie “It” based on the Stephen King book, there was just something about Pennywise the clown that scarred most of us pretty deeply. Maybe it was the John Wayne Gacy thing. Maybe it was the simple fact that clowns are scary as hell and Tim Curry nailed it. Hell, it was a lot of things that made Pennywise work.
Well, as many of you know, there is an It remake in the works right now, and the above shot is our first real look at the new Pennywise. Now I know at first glance we all think no one can outdo the original, but remember, people said the same thing when Heath Ledger became a clown, and look how well that turned out. I see a clown, I know it’s Pennywise, and that works for me. Plus, once he says “they all float down here” it is game-over, fear of clowns or not, that is some scary ish. That look, too. That look he is giving is making me feel violated.
Yup, Pennywise 2.0 is freaky as Hell.
