Mattel has released three Star Trek themed Barbie dolls to mark the show’s 50th anniversary. It’s the first time Barbies have come as original Star Trek series characters rather than merely Ken and Barbie dressed up.
The dolls are based on Captain Kirk, Mr Spock and Lt Uhura from the original run, as portrayed by William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and Nicelle Nichols respectively.
Nerdist notes two previous Barbie ranges: a 1996 30th-anniversary release with Barbie and Ken in Starfleet uniform and a 2009 series that again portrayed Kirk, Scott and Uhura, but with the costumes and faces of the characters in the reboot movie.
