With a live-action Ghost in the Shell, Attack on Titan, and a rumored Robotech on the way, Hollywood is continuing to look across the Pacific for its next big theatrical hit.
For Warner Bros., the fan favorite Death Note anime is slated to be next in line for a live-action film adaptation.
According to The Hollywood Reporter:
The story centers on a student who discovers a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone by writing the victim’s name, who then decides to cleanse the world of whom he deems evil. As the student is tracked by a reclusive police officer, a cat-and-mouse game ensues.
Horror director Adam Wingard (You’re Next, The Guest) has signed on to direct, and his production team is top-notch: Roy Lee (Bates Motel), Dan Lin (The LEGO Movie), Jason Hoffs (The Edge of Tomorrow), and…Masi Oka.
Yup, the beloved Hiro Nakamura from NBC’s Heroes! Not only does he speak three languages and is stellar in the martial art of kendo, Oka is a huge video game and manga fan IRL.
And when I last checked, Death Note was on Netflix, so go ahead and start catching up!
