“The Other Side”: Supernatural Fan Film

Star Wars and Star Trek aren’t the only geeky franchises that spawn fan films, those noncommercial labors of fan love that take the continuing-adventures aspect of fan fiction to the media of film. This one, the first part released on April 30 with two more installments due in coming weeks, is based on the television show Supernatural. And particularly notable is that it’s written by fantasy novelist and game designer Naomi Novik, known very well in fandom circles as well for her work in getting the non-profit Organization for Transformative Works off the ground.

Also notable about this film is that it’s a combination of footage cut from the show and original material, which gives it a really nice “missing episode” feel.
