Disney announced today that they will buy LucasFilm, including the Star Wars franchise for $4.05 billion. The major announcement came the same day the NYSE was closed due to one of the worse natural disasters to hit the east coast of the United States.
With the acquisition, Disney plans to release a new Star Wars film by 2015, currently dubbed Episode 7. While many die-hard fans are recoiling at the thought of another Episode 1, 2 and 3, Disney executives assure that George Lucas will only serve as a creative consultant on the new properties.
An investor call is set to take place at 4:30pmET and details of the press release were made public on 4-traders.com.
