A Starry Night…in NASA Images

What does an astrophysicist do on a cloudy day? Create art.

Alex Parker, who is a post-doctoral fellow at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, was bored when a cloudy day meant he couldn’t do work at the observatory. So he got the idea to make a mosaic-style version of the famous Van Gogh, “Starry Night”, out of images freely downloadable from the NASA website.

What a perfect way for art and science to come together in beautiful harmony.
