Comic geeks who enjoy having their soul crushed have a special place in their bleak, dark hearts for Daniel Clowes. Author of the awesome “Ghost World” and the recent (totally depressing) “Wilson“, Clowes manages to explore in a few pages what it means to be alone in the world and whether or not it’s worth it to keep going. Besides all that, though, he’s also an amazing storyteller and artist, whose simple drawings still manage to evoke subtle but telling emotion.
A new retrospective of his work, “The Art of Daniel Clowes: Modern Cartoonist” is out today. danielclowes.com has had a countdown for the past two weeks building up to the release, which you can peruse here.
