How to Drive Away Comic Book Fans

Want to actually encourage comic book fans to be excited about your comic book movie?  Hint: Don’t compare it to Twilight.

With the new Spider-Man coming up, and tales of a possible new Buffy the Vampire Slayer, we’ve been hearing a lot lately about the relative merits of reboots. But I can’t help but think that Matthew Vaughn, the director of the upcoming X-Men: First Class, might have shot himself in the foot in saying that his film will appeal to fans of a certain vampire franchise.

In a recent interview, he told Entertainment Weekly: “It’s got a lot of teenage angst. The Twilight girls will like it.”

On the bright side, at least they didn’t cast Taylor Lautner as Beast, though there is one vampire in residence.

The release date for First Class is June 3, 2011.
