Deadpool: His Adventures in TV, Movies, and Video Games

Deadpool is magical. Not in the literal sense, but in the sense of how he makes his fans feel. He is so out-there and insane, you cannot help but lose yourself a bit in the character and forget about all the crap going on in your own world for a bit once you enter his. And with his own movie coming soon, how does one new to Deadpool fever catch up? DenOfGeek has you covered with a rather extensive piece about Deadpool’s history through film and TV and games.

Ultimate Deadpool made a rare and…not quite in-character appearance in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, a game based on the idea of 616 Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man Noir, and Spider-Man 2099 teaming up. In the comics, Ultimate Deadpool has made only one major appearance as a military man who hates mutants so much that he had himself enhanced into some kind of cybernetic killing machine who kills mutants on an illegal internet show for kicks. In the game, he’s brought back and is more like his goofy 616 self, more about telling jokes than being bitter and bigoted. Even this alternate reality version of Deadpool is voiced by Nolan North.

I loved his role in Shattered Dimensions, and thought that was one of the best levels of the game. Also, his turn in Hulk Vs. was nothing short of hilariously badass. Well worth checking out for new ‘Pool fans.

10 Misconceptions About Gamers from Non-Gamers

The problem non-gamers have with gamers is that they assume all and know so very little. We are not some archetype of geek, and just the simple fact that we game does not, alone, make us geeks. There is much about gamers that non-gamers don’t know, but rather, assume.

I believe this list will help destroy some of those inaccurate perceptions.

Chris Pine May Star in ‘Green Lantern’ Reboot

We all like Chris Pine. Most of us like Green Lantern. So if you put these two things together, you might just come out on the other end with something people like. After that last Green Lantern film, they could probably cast a phone book as Hal Jordan and it would still be a better film. But Chris Pine is a big name and has the potential to finally do this character right. From ComicsAlliance:

Chris Pine is currently the favorite to play the new Hal Jordan (sorry Ryan Reynolds) in a Green Lantern film that would focus on several iconic GL characters.

I think Pine is great, and anything would be better than that CG suit they gave us last time, so let’s hope this isn’t the last we hear of this.

falloutcaps

Remember the story we posted last week about a gamer who sent in 11.2 pounds of bottle caps (About 2,240) to Bethesda as currency to pre-order Fallout 4? Well geeks, Bethesda as answered his request, and since he was the first to attempt this, they will honor the pre-order!

Now how unbelievably cool is that, right? I certainly hope they send him one of those super cool Pip-Boy editions of the game!

1,000 MPH Car Close To Completion

bloodhound2015

What’s planned to be the first 1,000 mph car has come a step closer with the fitting of the tailfin that will keep it on a straight line. Bloodhound is now scheduled for its first public run in November.

As we’ve previously covered, the British based Bloodhound project has been in the works since 2008. It incorporates three engines: a hybrid rocket, an adapted Formula One racing car engine, and an adapted Eurofighter-Typhoon plane.

The plan is for driver Andy Green to reach 1,050 miles per hour. Green already holds the world speed record at 763 mph, the first and only time a car has broken the sound barrier. The record attempt will take place in a South African desert on a 19km track which has been cleared by hand by 300 locals.

The latest milestone in the project is the fitting of the tailfin, which Green likens to the feathers on a dart. He notes that there’s virtually no wheel grip when driving, so the tailfin will be vital for stopping the car veering perilously off course.

The tailfin is made of 139 aluminium sections, with an internal skeleton and a curved casing. Engineers involved in its production have talked about the difficulty of producing a component that is a true one-off.

While the tailfin will mainly sport a design of the United Kingdom flag, it will also bear the names of individuals and organizations who donated to an Indiegogo campaign that raised £86,702 (approx US$135,000.)

Staff on the project have also unveiled more details on the timescale for the remainder of the project. It’ll be publicly unveiled in operational form for the first time in November when it will be tested at 200 mph at the Newquay Aerohub in the UK.

The car will then get its final parts added in the shape of airbrakes and winglets and then taken to South Africa for high-speed testing next summer. The results of that testing will determine the date for the record attempt, which will come via two runs. The first will be designed solely to beat the current 763mph, with the second being an all-out attempt at the 1,000mph mark.

Perhaps in a subconscious move by Rocksteady to set up the awesome brawl between these two in the upcoming Dawn of Justice movie, seems there are a bunch of Superman Easter Eggs inside Arkham Knight.

You don’t have to look very far to find references to the Man of Steel in Gotham—Arkham Knight is bursting with Superman easter eggs.

So keep your eyes out while combing the streets of Gotham, and keep your ears open for stuff like this:
