Someone Hooked a Mushroom Up to a Synthesizer, and It Got Funky

We’ve officially reached the point where mushrooms are making electronic music in the woods, and somehow this one has better rhythm than most wedding DJs.

Bionic and the Wires connected sensors to a giant wild mushroom in Derbyshire, using its natural bioelectrical signals to control a pair of bionic arms playing a keyboard hooked up to a synthesizer. The result? A surprisingly danceable little electronic jam performed by a mushroom that doesn’t even have hands.

So the next time you hear a weird beat coming from the forest, don’t panic. It might just be a mushroom dropping some sick new beats for its upcoming album.
