What I’m about to show you is likely the closest thing you’ll ever see that even comes close to a real-life Terminator 2 retirement ceremony.
Figure has released an insanely cool video showing how they decommissioned their Figure 02 robots. Instead of taking them apart piece by piece, they decided to do the only logical thing to protect their intellectual property: send the robots straight into molten steel.
Naturally, Arnold Schwarzenegger was involved in the process:
Once this was settled, the company trained the robots to autonomously jump from a platform, shipped them all the way to a foundry in Finland, and had them leap into a 75-ton electric arc furnace filled with molten steel.
And the best part: it’s all real! They actually trained the robots to make the jump, flew them to Finland, and melted them down.
The melted steel didn’t even go to waste: Figure shipped the resulting metal bars back to the US and is machining them into a limited-edition series of F.02 commemorative artifacts. If you’re interested, you can even get one here.
