Apparently, Teenage Dirtbag has been a thing since the 14th century.
Hildegard von Blingin’ has once again worked her bardcore magic, transforming Wheatus’ angsty classic into a medieval tale of unrequited love. This time she’s joined by Friar Funk, and together they make “I’m just a teenage dirtbag” sound like the heartfelt lament of a lovesick peasant who’d gladly climb into an iron maiden for his lady.
The rewritten lyrics are packed with archaic gems like greenhorn, wagtail, hedgeborn, and blaggard, while the manuscript-inspired artwork ties the whole thing together beautifully. Best of all, the entire production was created by real humans, a refreshing detail in an age where that’s becoming worth mentioning.
If you’ve ever wondered what early-2000s teen angst would sound like after spending a few centuries in a medieval monastery, this is the cover you didn’t know you needed.
