Forty-two years after William Gibson redefined science fiction with Neuromancer, the future is finally booting up.
Apple TV has released the very first teaser for its long-awaited adaptation, and instead of overwhelming viewers with explosions, neon skylines, or action sequences, it takes a far more unsettling approach.
The teaser opens with someone switching on an old television, complete with chunky front-mounted knobs and the unmistakable mechanical hum of aging electronics. The screen stays almost completely black before the words “ASHPOOL 1” appear, followed by one of the most iconic opening lines in science fiction:
“The sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel.”
The image dissolves into static, the screen cuts to black, and that’s it. Short, eerie, and incredibly effective.
Apple accompanied the teaser with the simple message: “42 years ago, William Gibson introduced the world to Neuromancer. Now, the next chapter is loading.” Judging from these first few seconds, the series seems determined to capture the haunting atmosphere that made Gibson’s cyberpunk masterpiece so influential.
Created by Graham Roland and J. D. Dillard, the series stars Callum Turner as Case, Briana Middleton as Molly, Joseph Lee as Hideo, Mark Strong as Armitage, Peter Sarsgaard as John Ashpool, and Emma Laird as Linda Lee.

A hacker and an assassin are thrust into a web of high-stakes crime as they take aim at a corporate dynasty.
There’s still no premiere date, but if the rest of the series captures the same eerie, analog-dystopian vibe as this first teaser, cyberpunk fans may finally be getting the Neuromancer adaptation they’ve been waiting more than four decades to see.
