DC Studios just dropped a new trailer for Lanterns, and it finally feels like the Green Lantern series fans have been waiting for. We get our first proper look at Hal Jordan using his powers, glowing constructs lighting up the screen, and Nathan Fillion looking perfectly cast as Guy Gardner.
What’s really interesting is how the show seems to balance two very different vibes at once. On one side, there’s the grounded detective-thriller approach inspired by True Detective. On the other, the trailer makes it clear this story is heading somewhere much bigger and far more cosmic.
The series unfolds across two timelines: one set in 2016 with Hal Jordan investigating an extraterrestrial mystery, and another in 2026 where John Stewart has stepped into a much larger role. That structure could make Lanterns one of the most ambitious DCU projects yet.
If DC can successfully blend noir-style mystery with full-on Green Lantern mythology, this could end up being something really special.
Lanterns premieres August 16 on HBO and HBO Max.
