Ever looked at a snake eating something way bigger than itself and thought, “How the hell is that possible”? This video explores the strange engineering behind snake jaws: stretchy ligaments, unfused bones, and a face that basically goes full “expandable inventory mode.” Some species can open their mouths nearly 180 degrees, while others casually unhinge their jaws by swallowing prey several times their size.
But it gets better (or worse). Some snakes can reposition their airway mid-meal so they don’t suffocate while swallowing an entire animal. Others can digest bones, survive a year off one meal, or, if they’re feeling fancy, fold their prey like a biological accordion to make it fit.
