Spaceballs 2 is real, it’s happening, and it now has a release date: April 23, 2027, thanks to Amazon MGM Studios. That’s right: after decades of waiting, the Schwartz is finally getting a sequel, and somewhere, Dark Helmet is already screaming into a mirror about it.
The follow-up to Spaceballs is being directed by Josh Greenbaum, with a script from Josh Gad, Dan Hernandez, and Benji Samit. The story is being kept tightly under wraps, which probably means it’s either incredibly clever… or they lost the script and are stalling.
Even better, original stars like Mel Brooks, Bill Pullman, and Daphne Zuniga are coming back, but let’s not pretend we’re all thinking about anyone other than Rick Moranis. The man basically raised an entire generation on science accidents and musical plants, then quietly vanished like a legend who completed all his side quests. And now he’s back.
New faces like Keke Palmer and Anthony Carrigan are also joining in, which means this thing could either be glorious… or so dumb it loops back around to genius. Honestly, both would be on brand.
Now we wait for a trailer, screenshots, and at least one moment where someone says, “We’re surrounded by… merchandising!” and we all lose it.
