Disney has just released the first trailer for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, and it puts the galaxy firmly in the hands of one of its most dangerous survivors. Narrated largely by Maul himself, the trailer paints a grim picture of a galaxy stuck in chains, always running, always suffering, surviving but never truly living.

Visually, this might be some of the best Star Wars animation I’ve ever seen. The high-contrast style is absolutely insane: deep blacks, stark lighting, and sharp silhouettes that make every shot feel heavy, tense, and soaked in menace. It’s less glossy space opera and more shadow-drenched dark side mythmaking, and it fits Maul perfectly.

If this visual style carries through the entire series, Shadow Lord is going to be amazing, bold, brutal, and very dark, and honestly, I’m all up for it! Check it out!
