Can an AI write and illustrate a better sitcom than a human who literally does that for a living?
Animator Hayk Manukyan, who is currently working at Warner Bros. Animation, decided to find out the fun way: by challenging a machine.
Using his hand-drawn characters Harut and Sophik, Hayk gave an AI the exact same sitcom setup as his latest sketch: Harut accuses his wife of hiding his computer while “cleaning.” He even fed the AI his own illustration of the scene and asked it to turn the idea into a classic husband vs. wife sitcom bit. With OpenAI’s Sora, the experiment produced seven AI-generated clips.
After letting Skynet take its best shots, Hayk revealed his own fully hand-drawn, frame-by-frame animated version and asked viewers to choose their favorite. Check it out, and may the funniest animator win!
