When Christopher Nolan tackles a legend, he doesn’t dabble, he commits. The first trailer for The Odyssey is here, and it promises a mythological epic that feels colossal, punishing, and deeply human, transforming Homer’s ancient journey into something awe-inspiring and very real.
Inspired by Homer’s epic poem, the film follows Odysseus on his long, brutal journey home after the Trojan War. Matt Damon stars as Odysseus, looking every bit like a man who has seen too much, and Tom Holland, who plays as his son, Telemachus.
The trailer leans hard into scale: towering seas, brutal combat, and vast landscapes, but what really sells it is the weight behind it all. This isn’t a glossy mythological fantasy. It looks gritty, exhausting, and deeply emotional, like survival itself is the true antagonist. If this is just a teaser of what Nolan has planned, we may be looking at one of the most ambitious mythological adaptations ever put on screen.
The Odyssey will hit theaters on July 17, 2026, and judging by this first look, the journey is going to be a long, unforgettable one.
