Star Wars fans, sit down. Breathe. Put the lightsaber down. Yes, that one.
Against all odds, shattered expectations, and several thousand “this is never happening” comments, a new KOTOR-style game has been announced. And not in a “mobile gacha card battler” way. In a real, single-player, moral-choices-will-haunt-you kind of way.
Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is officially happening, and the reveal hit The Game Awards yesterday. New Star Wars games show up all the time, sure, but this one made longtime fans suddenly remember every dialogue choice they regret from 2003.
Why? Because Casey Hudson, the original director of Knights of the Old Republic, is back. He’s leading the project at Arcanaut Studios, proving that sometimes the Force does, in fact, listen, but just very, very, very slowly.
The game drops you into the robes of a Force user whose choices shape their path toward the light or dark side. Which means you’ll swear you’re role-playing a noble Jedi… right up until someone mildly inconveniences you and suddenly lightning feels justified.
It’s a brand-new Old Republic story, so don’t expect familiar faces, just ancient Sith, galaxy-altering decisions, and combat that will absolutely make you pause the game to think, “Wait… was that the evil option?”
Bad news: it’s early in development. Good news: the KOTOR remake is also still happening. Possibly. Somewhere. In the Force.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be practicing my “this time I swear I won’t go dark side” lie in the mirror.
