Dear readers,
Geeks Are Sexy turned 20 years old a few weeks ago. I launched the site back in 2005 as a tiny hobby project, never imagining it would become my full-time job, my creative outlet, my community, and in many ways, my life’s work.
But the web has changed. A lot.
Independent sites like mine are struggling harder than ever. Since early 2024, traffic from Facebook, which used to bring in a large part of our daily readers, has dropped dramatically. When you run a one-person business, those drops hit everything: revenue, stability, and yes, even health. On top of that, costs are increasing, and running a site like this one costs me a few thousand dollars per year.
Those who’ve been following me for a while know that I suffer from a neurodegenerative disease called achalasia, meaning my esophagus is basically unresponsive and prone to horribly painful spasms that, from what I’ve heard, can feel as intense as a heart attack. I’ve never had a heart attack, so I can’t compare, but I can tell you those spasms are excruciatingly painful and debilitating and they happen a few times per week at ramdom times, often in the middle of the night.
Since 2005, I’ve been here with you guys every single day, sharing the best in geek culture, science, cosplay, tech, humor, and everything in between. Our Facebook page and group are still thriving communities, they just don’t send traffic anymore, thanks to algorithm changes.
So today, as a small independent creator, a business owner, and a dad, I’m asking for your help.
If you enjoy Geeks Are Sexy and want to keep it going, please consider supporting the site:
– Become a monthly supporter on Patreon
– Make a one-time or monthly donation via Paypal (you can use a Paypal account or any credit card)
Whatever you choose to do, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your support over the past two decades has meant the world to me and my family. I’m truly, endlessly grateful.
Thank you for reading, thank you for being here, and thank you for helping keep this 20-year journey alive.
