Boston Dynamics and Toyota Research Institute just showed off their Atlas robot with a new “Large Behavior Model,” which basically means it’s now smart enough to walk, crouch, lift, and deal with annoying surprises, like when some jerk keeps closing a lid on a box it’s trying to pick up stuff from.
In the demo, a human keeps messing with Atlas while it tries to work. And let’s be honest, this is exactly the kind of thing that makes robots snap.
I’m not saying this is how Skynet begins… but I’m also not not saying it.
Update: I included a funny voiceover video of the robot being annoyed under the first one!
