I think a lot of us felt this way (but that had a lot to do with the console’s processing power and long expanses being filled with nothing) but it is funny how far we have come. Below is the map for the new Legend of Zelda game, Breath of the Wild, as well as the size of other open world games and Zelda games from the past.
