The Final Frontier – The Surprising Musical Origins of Star Trek [Video]

A highly interesting video from CBC Music that explores the connection between the theme song of the original Star Trek series and some of history’s greatest classical music composers. The video start a little slow, but keep on watching, it gets “fascinating” pretty quickly.

  1. Hmmm… A bit of a stretch to be honest. There aren’t SO many note progressions in the western scale that people aren’t going to come up with the same thing over and over again independent of each other. In fact, the only progression in the ST theme that’s the same as the others is the first one – the A down to the E – and the fact that it resolves to the tonic again.

But then they tied it all back to saying that Beethoven got it from the 23rd century and I stopped taking it seriously and understood that it was an excuse for trekkies to take the credit. In which case, hats off to them. ;-)
