  1. how… cute? that is, if im allowed to use that word. i myself believe that the word cute being used by a male decreases his man points by a lot unless referencing a female, amiritE?

    • If I'm not mistaken, GaS has at least two writers; A man and a women (You can pick up on the different "his" and "hers" tenses in a few of the posts). I think I also heard them refer to each other as husband and wife before – but I could be completely mistaken about all of this.

    • Yeah, but you used it in reference to something geeky, so I don't think you lose 'man points' for that. I'm pretty sure there's a rule in the Man Code – Article 7 paragraph B that states it's allowed.  But I don't know, I'm a girl – we get to use all the words :)
Personally I think men should use the word 'cute' all the time… it's cute.

      • no, i dun think it would lose man points here but i think being cute by using words like cute definatly loses manpoints on the full-scale, but why would anyone that wants to appear "cute" to girls care about losing a few man points? id say if the reason for using those words is on purpose, either in part or fully, to look cute to a girl, than you gain manpoints rather than lose them XD

  3. You know, at first I was all on board with the "awwww" and the cuteness, but then I realized that the whole thing hinges on Bob believing that Alice is incompetent/dumb enough that it will take her years (or at least a significant amount of time) to crack his key. Not sure I'd be thrilled with someone making that assumption about my intellect/abilities, even if it happens to be true.

    • On the contrary, you could think that although a private key would be difficult to hack, Bob thought that Alice would be able to crack it and would be persistent until she achieved it, even though it could take her years.

      • The problem is that Bob made a pretty well defined assumption about Alice's intelligence level and ability to crack the key. Which in my opinion makes him a bit of an ass really.

        • It might also depend on what the key was.  Lots of time breaking codes and hacking have more to do with researching who, what, where and what for then trying to brute force. (The movie War Games shows this very well)  Where does the mark go, what do they like, do they have close family or pets.  Lots of people make pass keys that mean something personal to them to easily be remembered.  So if it's something really close and personal to Bob, and Alice would learn about it while being with him.  Maybe he put it as something very personal that only someone really close to him would know about, to be able to crack it she would know his deepest feelings and he would know that she understood him.

So in a way he is sharing his inner self with her, and Alice cracking it shows she truly knows the real Bob.  This would be a strong relationship….  As long as the pass key wasn't something like, "Mama's boy 4 life",or his Ex-Girlfriends name and number.

        • Someguy, if Bob put that much thought into it he would absolutely be a keeper IMO. Not to mention the fact that there is something very exciting about uncovering the mystery of your lover to begin with. That could only add excitement to the whole thing for me… if I were Alice.

I would need to know his intention before hand though, otherwise I might default to my earlier assumption… if I were in that particular situation.

  4. Why can't a man find something cute? Because your Daddy told you that it isn't "proper" masculine behavior?
Well, I for one refuse to be made to act in such a way just because
it's normal. I'm a geek, and geeks hold true to themselves and their
    passions.
Having said that, I find this graphic story immensely cute, and exemplary of geek love.

  5. so . . . waste time and get aggravated EVERY NIGHT of your relationship because when you finally crack the code, that'll mean you're worthy to know of my desire to marry you . . . really?   Uhm, he's a  dickhead and why exactly would she want to be with someone who plays annoying games like that?

    • Some girls like games, and if she is known to be a geek and skilled in computers, it would be fun for the girl.  Should she decide it is not worth it, is she even worth marrying?  If she had given up, then wouldn't that show to the man that she wasn't all that into him?

They still dated for all that time it took, and they got to know each other better.  In my opinion, it is adorable and clever.

  7. …and then Alice sent a response encrypted with HER public key, and told Bob that it was up to HIM to find out exactly what it said. And Bob sat up every night, breaking the encryption in anticipation, for Bob was intelligent enough to figure that it must be a response to his message, until he finally made a breakthrough of his own. and the message said…"yes, I will marry you, Bob!"
