‘At any moment Justin Bieber uses 3% of [Twitter’s] Infrastructure’

“Racks of servers are dedicated to him.”

Kind of depressing, isn’t it?

  1. I pray for the complete and total collapse of the Bieberverse. His very existence accelerates the universe's headlong rush towards entropy…

  2. I hate that I've even bothered to take the time to comment, because I'd rather imagine a world without such interest in today's flavor of "celebrity".

But it makes me crazy that this kid can occupy so much talk, energy and interest. Are we that (I mean society, not any specific persons) shallow?

    • Unfortunately, a large portion of society _is_ that shallow. They actually care what Paris Hilton is wearing; actually care what the Kardashian sisters are doing, what Lindsay Lohan thinks about _anything_, and think that reality TV has any connection to real life. But they know zip about the issues involved in what really makes an economy tick, what issues are important in renewable energy, the key issues involved in peace in the Middle East, and can't answer any of the questions on a grade school social studies test. But these are the same mental zombies that will be making decisions affecting my/your country and our planet very soon. At this rate we'll do ourselves in well before 2050… If the kinds of people that care about JB, PH, LH or any of the other publicity or popularity sl**s are in the majority, we're all truly doomed. If we could just keep them too busy, too self-involved to reproduce, maybe we could get that gene out of the pool??

      • (Sigh) yes, true. Not to generalize, but there seems to be an abundance of questionable style instead of substance.

Or, on second thought, there seems to be so much easier access to the material that gives us mental vacations and uses time that could be put to more challenging use.

And the industries around this (i.e. media) feed us this pap while the rest of the world has a different reality to deal with.
